Sowing and Reaping

Good job! You have some familiarity with gravity. There are many laws in our society that make up our universe. There’s another law in the Bible that most everyone knows, but many ignore. 

It’s called the law of sowing and reaping. This law is made up of three basic principles:

  1. First, you reap what you sow. 

Sounds simple, right? You plant corn; you get corn. The simple spiritual lesson reminds us that our thoughts, words, and actions are all seeds that will one day mature. 

  1. Next, you reap LATER than you sow. 

Is it ready to harvest if you plant corn, walk to the barn, and then walk back to the field? Of course not. Likewise, spiritually don’t get deceived by the delayed judgment if you are in sin, and don’t be discouraged by a lack of harvest now; reaping comes later. 

  1. Finally, you will reap MORE than you sow. 

One seed of corn produces several ears of corn. So, as you faithfully plant seeds, you may be surprised how much you reap someday. 

Years ago a Sunday School teacher sowed seeds into a teenager named D.L. Moody’s life. He had no idea of the harvest that would come as D.L. Moody became a well-known evangelist that led thousands to Christ.

I had a Sunday School teacher growing up that planted different seeds. They planted seeds of anger and sin. Their son was a close friend of mine, but he ended up in and out of jail and struggling with alcohol and drugs, last I checked. What happened? They reaped later and more than they had sown.

The question we must ask ourselves is, what type of seeds are you planting?

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.  Galatians 6:7-8
