Good News, Bad News

Luke 22:31-32

And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren

Doctor to patient: “I have bad news and worse news.”

Patient: “So let’s have it.”

Doctor: “The bad news is that you only have 24 hours to live.”

Patient: “I can’t imagine what could be worse than that!”

Doctor: “I forgot to tell you yesterday.”

We have all at some point had someone say to us, “I have some good news and some bad news.” I’m more of the give me the bad news first kind of guy. Depending on how bad that news is I may never hear the good news because I’m so worried about the bad!

In the verse above,  Jesus had some good news and some bad news for Peter.

The Bad News

Satan desired Peter and just as he desires us! He wants to discourage us, lift us up with pride, fill us with worldliness, bitterness and jealousy. Satan wants to destroy our families, church and so much more.

Satan knows the effect a Spirit-filled life can have on this world, so he will do all he can to either distract us or defile us. Makes no difference to him which tactic, as long as it keeps us from serving God.

The Good News

Jesus told Peter, “But I have prayed for you.” What an amazing truth. Often we as humans fail to pray for one another, but Jesus intercedes on our behalf just as he did Peter’s!

Our only response should be to remain faithful.

Feed your faith not our doubts. As Jesus told Peter, continue to strengthen other believers in their walk with God.

Satan may have plans for our lives, but our Savior Jesus Christ is praying for us and provides for us the victory to overcome!
